SB327 Summary

• Creates a new category of "certified potable water single family dwelling fire protection sprinkler contractor" with separate permitting requirements from general fire protection sprinkler contractors.

• Requires potable water single family dwelling fire sprinkler contractors to be licensed Master Plumbers in Alabama and pass a competency test administered by the State Fire Marshal's Office, with a $100 nonrefundable application fee.

• Maintains existing requirements for general fire protection sprinkler contractors, including NICET Fire Protection Layout Technician Level III certification and $100 application fee.

• Authorizes the State Fire Marshal to issue permits to both categories of contractors upon receipt of properly completed applications, fee payments, and proof of required certifications within 30 days.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
