• Department of Public Safety is designated as responsible for enforcement of the federal Unified Carrier Registration Act of 2005 (UCRA) in Alabama, with the Public Service Commission retaining administration responsibilities.

• Public Service Commission and Department of Public Safety must coordinate their responsibilities in administering and enforcing UCRA.

• UCRA fees collected by the Public Service Commission (excluding application fees) are split equally, with one-half paid to the commission's operating fund and one-half paid to a separate account in the Department of Public Safety's operating fund.

• Motor carrier registration fees (in excess of $1.00) are similarly divided, with one-half supporting the commission's regulation of motor carriers and one-half supporting the Department of Public Safety's enforcement of commercial motor vehicle regulations, standards, and orders.

• The act becomes effective October 1, 2014.
