SB42 Summary

• Amends Section 16-13B-7 of the Code of Alabama 1975 to extend the maximum contract period for personal property and contractual services from three years to five years.

• Maintains existing requirements that awards be made to the lowest responsible bidder considering quality, specifications, delivery terms, and transportation charges.

• Preserves existing preference for Alabama-produced commodities or those sold by Alabama persons, firms, or corporations when there is no sacrifice in price or quality.

• Retains separate limits for lease-purchase contracts: up to 10 years for capital improvements and repairs to real property, and up to 10 years for all other lease-purchase contracts.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and Governor approval.
