SB450 Summary

• Proposes a constitutional amendment to abolish the Office of the License Commissioner in Mobile County effective October 1, 2015, transferring all duties, functions, equipment, and funds to the Office of the Revenue Commissioner.

• All special fees previously assessed and collected by the license commissioner shall continue to be assessed and collected by the revenue commissioner beginning October 1, 2015.

• The secretary to the license commissioner position becomes an appointed position under the revenue commissioner with a salary not exceeding the salaries of Mobile County Commission secretaries; the revenue commissioner may appoint up to six additional employees.

• The revenue commissioner's salary is set at 75 percent of the combined salaries of both offices as paid immediately before October 1, 2015, calculated under specified prior acts and Code of Alabama provisions.

• The Mobile County Commission must provide sufficient office space to accommodate the expanded functions of the combined revenue commissioner office; the amendment requires voter approval through a constitutional election.
