SB73 Summary

• Amends Section 34-27A-7 of the Alabama Code to authorize the Alabama Real Estate Appraisers Board to consult with state and federal law enforcement authorities to verify whether license applicants have criminal records.

• Requires applicants for real estate appraiser certification to submit a sworn form containing their name, date of birth, and Social Security number, along with two complete sets of fingerprints for criminal background checks.

• Directs the board to submit fingerprints to the Alabama Bureau of Investigation (ABI) for state criminal history checks and to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for national criminal history checks, with costs borne by the applicant.

• Permits the board to keep criminal history information confidential, except when such information is relied upon to deny a license issuance, in which case it may be disclosed to support the denial.

• Allows the board to periodically consult with state and federal law enforcement officials to determine whether current licensees have new criminal convictions.
