SB75 Summary

• Requires local school boards to include information about meningococcal meningitis disease and its vaccine whenever they provide information on immunizations, infectious diseases, medications, or other school health issues to parents and guardians of students in grades 6-12.

• Required information must include a description of causes, symptoms, and means of transmission; a list of sources for additional information; and related recommendations from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

• Directs the State Department of Education, in cooperation with the Department of Public Health, to develop and make available the required information to local school systems, which may include posting on their website.

• Officially known as the Jessica Elkins Act.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
