SB8 Summary

• Proposes a constitutional amendment to establish specific dates and duration for Alabama Legislature sessions beginning after January 1, 2015.

• Regular sessions commence on the first Tuesday in March of year one, first Tuesday in February of years two and three, and second Tuesday in January of year four of a legislator's term, limited to 60 calendar days and 20 legislative days.

• Budget sessions begin the second Tuesday after final adjournment of regular sessions, limited to 45 calendar days and 10 legislative days, with consideration restricted to revenue, appropriations, debt interest, bonds, education funding, and emergency financial bills.

• Special sessions limited to 12 legislative days and 30 calendar days, with legislation restricted to subjects designated by the Governor unless approved by two-thirds vote of each house.
