SB82 Summary

• Amends Act 2013-227 to modify sheriff qualifications in Baldwin County, effective after May 13, 2013.

• Removes the requirement that prior law enforcement service must involve "the power of arrest" and instead requires only 3 or more years of prior service as a law enforcement officer.

• Maintains existing qualifications including U.S. citizenship, 1-year county residency, voter registration, high school diploma/GED, age 25 or older, and no felony convictions.

• Requires elected sheriffs to complete minimum 12 hours of executive-level continuing education annually from Alabama or National Sheriff's Association, with certification filed by December 31.

• Does not apply to supernumerary sheriffs.
