SB88 Summary

• Removes the requirement that garnishment writs for state employee salaries be limited to judgments based on contract actions.

• Eliminates the restriction that garnishment writs can only issue on "judgments ex contractu" (contract-based judgments), allowing writs based on other types of final judgments.

• Removes the requirement that state officials must show assent or consent in their answer before judgment can be entered in garnishment proceedings against state employee salaries.

• Amends Sections 6-6-482 and 6-6-483 of the Code of Alabama 1975 regarding garnishment procedures for state employee wages.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
