SB97 Summary

• Amends Section 34-27A-7 of the Alabama Code to require real estate appraiser applicants to submit to criminal history background checks through the Alabama Bureau of Investigation (ABI) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

• Applicants must provide a sworn form containing their name, date of birth, and Social Security number, along with two complete sets of fingerprints for state and federal criminal history record checks.

• Applicants bear the costs associated with conducting the criminal history background checks.

• The Alabama Real Estate Appraisers Board must keep background check information confidential, except when such information is used to deny a license issuance.

• The act becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
