The Alabama Legislature recognizes The Evelyn Gibson Lowery Civil Rights Heritage Trail as an important historical resource.

The trail features pivotal Civil Rights historical sites located in Birmingham, Marion, Selma, Whitehall, Montgomery, Tuskegee, and other locations.

The late Evelyn G. Lowery, founder of SCLC/W.O.M.E.N., INC, established the trail and a two-day tour that allows national leaders, students, international dignitaries, and citizens to meet notable Civil Rights figures and hear from guides who experienced the movement.

Mrs. Lowery constructed 13 memorials along the trail to honor those who sacrificed their lives during the Civil Rights Movement.

The resolution honors the legacy of Evelyn Gibson Lowery and expresses appreciation to SCLC/W.O.M.E.N. for providing access to key elements of Civil Rights history.
