The Alabama Senate honors Senator Tom Whatley for his honorable service as Battalion Commander of the 167th Special Troops Battalion.

Senator Whatley enlisted in the Alabama Army National Guard in 1988 and has served with distinction for 25 years, receiving his Commission from Auburn University ROTC in 1992.

His military service includes a diplomatic assignment as Bilateral Affairs Officer at the United States Embassy in Bucharest, Romania, and he has earned the Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Meritorious Service Medal.

Senator Whatley was elected to the Alabama Senate on November 2, 2010, and serves as Chairman of the Senate Agriculture, Forestry, and Conservation Committee and various other committee positions; he holds a law degree and is admitted to the Alabama State Bar.

A Change of Command Ceremony for Senator Whatley is scheduled for April 6, 2014, with the Senate expressing gratitude and best wishes for his future.
