HB12 Summary

• Waives Alabama state licensing requirements for out-of-state physicians and osteopaths holding current unrestricted licenses in another state when traveling with an athletic team for a sporting event in Alabama.

• Applies to medical services provided to members of the athletic team, coaching staff, communications staff, equipment staff, sports medicine staff, band, cheerleading squad, and team mascot.

• Requires a written agreement between the out-of-state physician and the athletic team to qualify for the waiver.

• Prohibits out-of-state physicians from providing medical services at health care facilities including hospitals, ambulatory surgical facilities, or any inpatient or outpatient treatment facilities.

• Became effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor (House passed 19-MAR-15, Senate passed 04-JUN-15).
