HB151 Summary

• Authorizes law enforcement officers to arrest persons without a warrant when they have reasonable cause to believe a trespass has been committed on the premises of an educational institution.

• Expands the definition of "building" under Alabama Code Section 13A-7-1 to include any structure used for any purpose by an educational institution.

• Defines "educational institution" as public or private colleges, universities, graduate schools, professional schools, junior colleges, trade schools, elementary schools, secondary schools, and institutions for education and training of the deaf, blind, or individuals with developmental disabilities.

• Adds a new subsection (9) to Section 15-10-3 authorizing warrantless arrests for trespassing on educational institution premises, alongside existing warrantless arrest provisions for felonies, domestic violence, and breach of peace.

• Takes effect immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor.
