HB159 Summary

• Amends Section 26-1-3.1 of the Alabama Code to allow persons age 17 or older to consent to blood donations without parental or guardian permission in voluntary, noncompensatory blood donation programs.

• Allows persons age 16 to donate blood with written parental or guardian permission in voluntary, noncompensatory blood donation programs.

• Authorizes persons age 18 or older to consent to donate blood or plasma without parental or guardian permission, with consent not subject to later disaffirmance due to minority status.

• Repeals Section 26-1-3 of the Alabama Code as a nonconforming provision.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and gubernatorial approval.
