HB 309 Summary

• Increases Alabama Nursing Board membership from 13 to 15 members by adding two advanced practice nurse positions.

• Changes board composition to include 10 licensed professional nurses and 4 licensed practical nurses (increased from 8 professional nurses).

• Allows any individual nurse or organization representing nurses to nominate eligible candidates by December 1 following notification of a vacancy, replacing the prior nomination process limited to specific organizations.

• Clarifies that advanced practice registered nurses and physician's assistants may delegate orders to registered nurses and licensed practical nurses, in addition to physicians and dentists.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
