• Annexation by general or local law does not automatically extend police jurisdiction unless specifically provided in the law.

• Police jurisdiction alterations from annexation or deannexation occur only once yearly on January 1 for annexations finalized by the preceding October 1.

• Municipalities must provide 30 days' notice before enforcing ordinances, imposing licenses, or levying taxes in police jurisdictions and must submit notices to the Atlas Alabama state website if available at no cost.

• Municipalities must prepare annual reports accounting for all revenues collected in expanded police jurisdictions and document services provided, submitted to the Office of Examiners of Public Accounts within 90 days of fiscal year end.

• Municipal planning commission boundary alterations from annexation or deannexation take effect once yearly on January 1 for actions finalized by the preceding October 1.
