HB406 Summary

• Provides the Sheriff of Jefferson County an additional annual expense allowance of $45,000 per year, payable in equal monthly installments from the county general fund.

• The expense allowance may be treated as compensation for retirement contribution purposes and is in addition to all other compensation or benefits received by the sheriff.

• Effective beginning the sheriff's next term of office, the annual salary shall be $160,000 and the $45,000 expense allowance shall become null and void.

• Beginning the next term of office, the sheriff shall receive the same cost-of-living increases granted to deputy sheriffs in Jefferson County.

• The act becomes effective on the first day of the first month following passage and approval by the Governor, or its otherwise becoming law.
