Applies only to Cherokee County and establishes minimum qualifications for sheriff candidates: U.S. citizenship, one-year county residency, voter registration, high school diploma or GED, age 25 or older, three or more years of law enforcement experience, and no felony convictions.

Requires the elected sheriff to complete a minimum of 12 hours of executive-level continuing education annually, approved by the Alabama Sheriff's Association or National Sheriff's Association.

Mandates certification of annual continuing education be filed with the county judge of probate by December 31.

Does not apply to supernumerary sheriffs.

Becomes effective immediately upon passage and gubernatorial approval.
