Madison County Sheriff may provide a retiring detention officer with a commemorative badge at no cost, paid from the sheriff's discretionary fund, if the officer has served at least 10 years and retires in good standing under the Retirement Systems of Alabama and is at least 62 years of age.

Retiring detention officers with 25 or more consecutive years of service who retire in good standing may receive both a commemorative badge and a commemorative firearm (costing not more than $600) at no cost, paid from the sheriff's discretionary fund.

The act becomes effective immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor, or upon otherwise becoming law.
