AL HB611

Creates three new Class A misdemeanor offenses: rape in the third degree, sodomy in the third degree, and sexual abuse in the third degree, applicable when the perpetrator is at least 12 but less than 16 years old and the victim is less than 12 years old and more than two years younger.

Adds the three new third-degree offenses to the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act's definition of sex offenses, but allows sentencing courts to exempt juvenile offenders adjudicated delinquent of these crimes from registration or reduce the registration period.

Amends Sections 15-20A-5 and 15-20A-6 of the Alabama Code to incorporate the new offenses and renumber existing sex offense categories accordingly.

Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and gubernatorial approval.
