Requires each newly appointed municipal chief of police to complete a training course for newly appointed chiefs, facilitated by the Alabama Association of Chiefs of Police and approved by the commission, within one year of appointment.

Maintains the existing requirement that municipal chiefs of police complete 20 hours of executive level continuing education annually.

Requires all law enforcement officers, including those employed by sheriff's departments, to complete 12 hours of continuing education annually, eliminating the previous requirement that sheriff's department training be conditional on county commission approval.

Allows the commission to grant extensions of time for completing required courses for sufficient cause.

Provides that failure to comply with training requirements subjects officers to revocation of their certification or law enforcement authority by the commission, with appeal rights available.
