HB658 Summary

• Creates the Etowah County Mega Sports Complex Authority consisting of the legislative sponsor, members appointed by local legislative delegation members, the Director of the Etowah County Chamber of Commerce, and three members appointed by the Chamber Director.

• Authority is empowered to evaluate the feasibility, location, costs, and funding sources for a mega sports complex in Etowah County and may proceed with development and management of such a facility.

• Authority has powers to acquire or lease real property for sports and recreational facilities, enter into contracts, establish committees, hire staff, and accept donations and grants.

• All Tennessee Valley Authority in-lieu-of-taxes payments retained by Etowah County (not transferred to City of Sardis) shall be distributed to the Authority for financing and operating the mega sports complex.

• Act becomes effective immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor and applies only to Etowah County; passed House on May 19, 2015 and Senate on June 2, 2015.
