HB71 Summary

• Amends Alabama Code Section 25-4-70 to prohibit unemployment benefits for employees of private companies providing direct services to schools during breaks in employment caused by holidays, fall and winter breaks, and summer vacation, effective May 1, 2015.

• Applies to individuals employed by employers primarily or exclusively engaged in providing employees to perform work for educational institutions.

• Denies benefits when the individual performs services immediately before a vacation period or holiday recess and has reasonable assurance of performing the same or similar services immediately after.

• Applies regardless of whether the employer qualifies for federal employment tax exemption or is a religious, charitable, or educational institution.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
