• On December 11, 2014, Trooper Box conducted a traffic stop in Marion County when a westbound tractor trailer crossed onto the roadway shoulder, striking his patrol vehicle and throwing him into a drainage ditch with serious injuries.

• Despite immobilizing injuries and lying face-down on the ground, Trooper Box directed witnesses to check on the motorist (Ms. Denise Carleton) and tractor trailer driver instead of seeking immediate help for himself.

• While sliding down the embankment, Trooper Box instructed the tractor trailer driver to sit in front of him to stabilize his body and prevent further injury, then was airlifted to The University of Alabama Birmingham Hospital for emergency surgery.

• The Legislature recognizes Trooper Box's demonstrated courage, quick thinking, and willingness to sacrifice his own safety for others, and directs that he receive a copy of the resolution.
