Recognizes Jefferson State Community College on its 50th anniversary in 2015.

Jefferson State Junior College was established on May 3, 1963, as one of 12 junior colleges authorized by the Alabama State Legislature and opened September 30, 1965, with approximately 1,200 freshmen under President Leroy Brown.

College offers more than 120 university transfer programs, 20 career programs with multiple options, and numerous certificate programs to the greater Birmingham area.

Notable achievements include first junior college in the state to receive national accreditation (1968), gymnastics teams winning NJCAA National Women's Championships in 1977 and 1978, and Building and Construction Science Program winning first place in the National Association of Home Builders' Residential Construction Management Competition in 2012.

The Alabama Legislature honors and commends Jefferson State Community College for its commitment to excellence in education and workforce training.
