Ross enlisted in the US Army in September 1985 and has held every leadership position from Squad Leader to Command Sergeant Major, including assignments across Germany, Kansas, Texas, Colorado, and overseas in Iraq, Afghanistan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Qatar.

Ross holds an Associate Degree in General Studies, Bachelor of Arts in Homeland Security, and Master of Arts in Leadership, along with completion of the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy, Class 53, and multiple specialized military courses.

Ross has received the Legion of Merit (10 awards), Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (7 awards), Army Commendation Medal (8 awards), Army Achievement Medal (10 awards), Air Assault Badge, Combat Action Badge, and Master Space Badge among numerous other decorations.
