SB132 Summary

• Amends Section 36-25A-2 of the Alabama Code to further define the term "meeting" under the Open Meetings Act.

• Adds new definition of "deliberation" as an exchange of information or ideas among a quorum intended to arrive at or influence a decision on how members should vote on a specific matter.

• Expands definition of "meeting" to include unprearranged gatherings where a quorum deliberates specific matters expected to come before the body at a later date.

• Excludes from "meeting" definition occasions when two members of a governmental body gather solely to exchange background and education information or discuss economic, industrial, or commercial prospects without reaching conclusions on recommendations, policy, decisions, or public financial resources.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
