SB165 Summary

• Amends Section 34-25A-5 of the Alabama Code to modify licensing requirements and exemptions for prosthetists, orthotists, and pedorthists in the state.

• Removes exemptions that previously allowed unlicensed persons to practice prosthetics, orthotics, or pedorthics in diagnostic laboratories and certain other employment settings.

• Retains exemptions for licensed health care practitioners (physical therapists, occupational therapists, etc.), federal government employees, students in approved programs, and those providing services for no more than 60 days per 12-month period with board notification.

• Maintains citizenship or legal residency requirements for licensure applicants and establishes multiple educational pathways to obtain licensure, including baccalaureate degrees, post-baccalaureate certificates, associate degrees, or work experience combined with coursework.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
