SB167 Summary

• Amends Code of Alabama Section 34-24-604 to require all physicians providing pain management services to obtain annual registration from the Alabama Board of Medical Examiners beginning January 1, 2014.

• Establishes a single registration fee not to exceed $300 for initial registration and a single renewal fee not to exceed $300 annually, with no additional fees charged for multiple practice locations.

• Eliminates the previous requirement that physicians practicing in multiple locations submit separate registration fees for each practice location.

• Requires physicians to submit applications including proof of DEA registration, Alabama controlled substances certificate, Prescription Drug Monitoring Program registration, medical director certification, and disclosure of any disciplinary history.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
