SB 209 Summary

• Amends the definition of "school" under Alabama Code Section 34-7B-1 to clarify that schools of cosmetology and barbering provide training programs above the secondary level.

• Requires schools licensed or applying for licensure to maintain recognition as institutions of postsecondary study by admitting students who have earned a recognized high school diploma or equivalent, or are above mandatory high school attendance age.

• Schools must be licensed by name to offer one or more training programs above the secondary level in cosmetology and barbering practices.

• Establishes requirements for school operation including a $50,000 bond, liability insurance, financial statements, equipment lists, and student contract agreements.

• Becomes effective immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor.
