AL SB223

Creates an additional circuit judgeship designated Circuit Judgeship Number 6 in the 28th Judicial Circuit comprised of Baldwin County.

Makes the judgeship conditional upon Baldwin County Commission adoption of a resolution to fund compensation and benefits for the judge, a judicial assistant, and a court reporter for the first 24 months.

Provides for election of the judge at the November 2016 general election, with the first elected judge serving a six-year term beginning the first Monday following the second Tuesday in January following the election.

Grants the new judge all jurisdiction, powers, rights, authority, qualifications, and duties equivalent to other circuit judges in the state.

Compensation shall follow Chapter 10A of Title 12, Code of Alabama 1975, with no salary supplement or expense allowance for judges elected or appointed after October 1, 2001.
