SB24 Summary

• Transfers all employees from Bishop State Community College, Southern Union State Community College, Bevill State Community College, and the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education who work in the Alabama Career Center System to the Alabama Department of Labor effective July 1, 2015.

• Transferred employees retain current salary and benefits with no adverse effects and receive Merit System classifications and employment protections under the state Merit System Act.

• State Personnel Department shall credit transferred employees for all years of service while with the Alabama Career Center System.

• Implementation is contingent upon federal Congressional appropriation of adequate funding from the Federal Workforce Investment Act or successor legislation for fiscal year 2015 or later, as determined by the Director of Finance.

• Department of Labor shall contribute amounts to the State Employees' Insurance Fund for retired Alabama Career Center System employees equal to state appropriations for their benefits, contingent upon federal compliance.
