SB247 Summary

• Permits licensed manufacturers or their representatives to conduct free wine and distilled spirit tastings at retail stores licensed for off-premises consumption and state liquor stores, subject to Alabama Alcoholic Beverage Control Board rules.

• Wine tastings limited to one ounce per product with maximum four wines; distilled spirit tastings limited to one-quarter ounce per product with maximum two spirits at any single tasting event.

• Tastings must commence no later than 6:00 p.m. and conclude within two hours; only one tasting of any kind permitted per premises in a 24-hour period.

• Amends Section 28-3A-25 of the Code of Alabama 1975 to clarify that alcohol consumption on state liquor store and off-premises premises is permitted only when specifically authorized by law for tastings.

• Became effective on the first day of the sixth month following passage and approval by the Governor; passed Senate 21-0 on May 9, 2015.
