AL SB26

Repeals and replaces Article VII of the Alabama Constitution governing impeachments, with technical amendments including renumbering, capitalization, and gender-neutral language.

Removes State Superintendent of Education from impeachable officers and adds members of the State Board of Education; changes Senate conviction requirement from simple majority to two-thirds vote.

Adds district court judges as impeachable officers and replaces outdated term "solicitor" with "district attorney."

Makes all county and municipal officers subject to impeachment for causes including willful neglect of duty, corruption, incompetency, moral turpitude, or intemperance with intoxicating liquors or narcotics.

Becomes operative January 1, 2017, upon approval by a majority of qualified electors voting in an election held under Alabama Constitution Sections 284 and 285.
