SB262 Summary

• Allows persons under age 18 to receive or possess a pistol with written consent of a parent, guardian, or spouse (age 18+) if specific conditions are met, including presence of an authorized adult, use on owned/leased premises, instruction by a licensed gun safety instructor, or use for hunting, trapping, target shooting, or firearm competitions.

• Eliminates certain record-keeping and administrative requirements for retail pistol dealers, local law enforcement, and the Secretary of State regarding pistol sales and registration.

• Makes technical nonsubstantive changes to sections governing licensing and regulation of retail dealers in pistols and the sale of pistols.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
