SB263 Summary

• Amends Section 36-26-16 of the Alabama Code to authorize the State Director of Personnel to add disabled persons certified by the Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs to employment certification lists, in addition to those certified by the Department of Rehabilitation Services.

• Authorizes the State Director of Personnel to add to promotion certification lists veterans verified by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs as having a service-connected disability of at least 50 percent.

• Permits the State Director of Personnel to withhold preference in employment or promotion certification if the director finds the person is physically or otherwise unfit to perform effectively the duties of the position.

• Becomes effective immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor.
