Authorizes private employers to establish written voluntary veterans' preference employment policies for hiring, promotion, or retention decisions.

Defines "veteran" as a person who served on active duty in the United States Armed Forces and received an honorable discharge, verified by DD 214 form.

Requires that any veterans' preference policy be applied uniformly to all employment decisions regarding hiring, promotion, or retention during reductions in force.

Exempts veterans' preference policies from violation of local or state equal employment opportunity laws.

Directs the Alabama Department of Veterans' Affairs and Alabama Department of Labor to assist private employers in verifying veteran status while protecting personal privacy.
