SB287 Summary

• Amends Section 40-18-140 of the Code of Alabama 1975 to add the USS Alabama Battleship Commission as an authorized income tax refund check-off option for taxpayers beginning in the 2015 tax year.

• Alabama resident individual income taxpayers may designate an amount of their refund, rounded to whole dollars, to contribute to the USS Alabama Battleship Commission by checking an appropriate box on their state income tax return.

• Contributions to the USS Alabama Battleship Commission shall be deposited with the State Treasurer, with up to 5 percent deducted for administrative costs by the Department of Revenue.

• Check-offs that fail to achieve average annual gross contributions of $7,500 over a three-year period will be dropped from tax return forms after three years and their authorization repealed.

• The act became effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
