SB422 Summary

• Amends Section 11-50B-3 of the Alabama Code to expand the geographic coverage area for municipal telecommunications services provided by public providers.

• Extends service coverage to any county containing any portion of the municipality and police jurisdiction, any county with the municipal planning commission's territorial jurisdiction, and any county where the municipality furnishes or sells utilities.

• Applies expanded coverage provisions to both municipalities and municipal instrumentalities providing cable service, interactive computer service, Internet access, and advanced telecommunications services.

• Requires public providers to offer nondiscriminatory access to telecommunications equipment to requesting telecommunications carriers and electric cooperatives on just, reasonable, and nondiscriminatory terms.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and gubernatorial approval.
