SB 433 Summary

• Removes the requirement that local elected officials only receive compensation increases when the county budget is adopted, allowing increases to be granted at other times during the fiscal year.

• Limits compensation increases for local elected officials to cost-of-living increases only, eliminating longevity increases, merit raises, and bonuses previously available under existing law.

• Caps total compensation increases at 8 percent during a four-year term for officials with four-year terms, or during any four-year period for other officials.

• Prohibits officials from receiving both an expense allowance and a compensation increase in the same fiscal year.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
