• Allows vehicles with auxiliary power units or idle reduction technology to carry an additional 400 pounds total weight if operators provide written certification of the APU weight and demonstrate the technology is fully functional.

• Maintains existing weight restrictions: maximum 20,000 pounds per axle on most highways, 80,000 pounds overall gross weight, with specific limits for Interstate highways.

• Preserves existing exemptions for dump trucks, concrete mixing trucks, fuel trucks, and agricultural vehicles from conforming to standard axle spacing requirements.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
