AL SB66

Amends Section 12-19-180 of the Code of Alabama 1975 to provide district attorneys, assistant district attorneys, deputy district attorneys, and their employees statewide access to all court records at no cost or fee.

Court records access includes all records in the court file, including electronic formats accessible through alacourt.com and any online or web-based programs designed to provide access to court records, available from any computing or electronic device at all times.

The Administrative Director of Courts may establish subscription, rental, or user fees for non-judicial system entities to offset costs, but exempts district attorney offices from these charges.

Preserves existing public access protections and does not permit access to court records that are not otherwise subject to public disclosure by law or court rule.

Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
