AL SB70

Proposes a constitutional amendment to Alabama's Constitution of 1901 relating to Shelby County judge of probate vacancies.

Establishes that vacancies in the Shelby County judge of probate office shall be filled through nominations to the Governor by the Shelby County Judicial Commission.

Requires the Shelby County Judicial Commission to use the same procedures established in Amendment 804 for filling circuit or district court judge vacancies when nominating probate judge candidates.

Directs an election on the proposed amendment in accordance with Amendment 555 and state election laws, with ballot language to be set forth by the appropriate election official.

Senate passed the act on April 9, 2015 and the House of Representatives passed it on May 19, 2015.
