SJR46 Summary

• Urges law enforcement, prosecutors, and juvenile courts to enforce Section 12-15-111 of the Alabama Code regarding criminal liability for contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

• Identifies that children who lack adequate adult supervision or are encouraged by adults to engage in delinquent behavior are at risk of committing crimes or becoming crime victims.

• Directs investigation of parents, legal guardians, legal custodians, or persons with custody and control of children subject to juvenile proceedings under the Alabama Juvenile Justice Act.

• Directs investigation of any other persons not related to the child who have aided, encouraged, or caused a child to become delinquent, dependent, or in need of supervision.

• Calls for enforcement of state law prohibiting willful aiding, encouraging, or causing of child delinquency, unlawful child employment, or failure to attend school.
