AL HB100

Amends Alabama Code Sections 36-21-102 and 36-30-1 to include members of rescue squads within the definition of firefighters for purposes of state benefits.

Extends free college tuition to surviving beneficiaries of rescue squad members who are killed or totally disabled in the line of duty, covering undergraduate study at any state college, community college, junior college, or technical college in Alabama.

Qualifies dependent children under 21 years of age and unmarried spouses (if initial enrollment occurs within five years of death or disability) for the tuition benefits.

Applies only to rescue squad members who are members of the Alabama Association of Rescue Squads.

Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and gubernatorial approval.
