AL HB112

Proposes a constitutional amendment to Alabama's Constitution establishing that every parent has a fundamental right to direct the upbringing, education, care, and custody of their children.

Prohibits government from burdening this parental right unless the government demonstrates the burden serves a compelling governmental interest and uses the least restrictive means to achieve that interest.

Amendment becomes valid upon approval by a majority of qualified electors voting in an election held according to Sections 284 and 285 of the Alabama Constitution and state election laws.

Election official must assign a ballot number and set forth a description of the amendment on the ballot with Yes/No voting options.
