HB114 Summary

• Authorizes State Fire Marshal to issue permits to certified potable water single family dwelling fire protection sprinkler contractors who hold valid master plumber certification and pass a competency test administered by the State Fire Marshal.

• Creates the Fire Prevention, Protection, and Sprinkler System Advisory Board with seven members representing builders, fire sprinklers association, home builders, plumbers, building officials, firefighters, and the State Fire Marshal as ex officio secretary.

• Requires board to meet at least twice per year and grants it sole authority to review and approve curriculum for training and certification of potable water single family dwelling fire protection sprinkler contractors.

• Mandates State Fire Marshal collect and publish data on all structural fires in Alabama including structure type, age, construction code, fire cause, materials, damage, and smoke detectors/sprinklers installed.

• Requires fire data to be made available to public free of charge on State Fire Marshal website in monthly sortable electronic format; clarifies bill does not authorize mandatory sprinkler system installation in single family dwellings.
