HB130 Summary

• Amends Section 30-1-7 of the Alabama Code to add protections for persons authorized to solemnize marriages.

• Specifies that licensed ministers, judges, pastors, and other persons authorized to solemnize marriages under Alabama law are not required to perform marriage ceremonies for any person.

• Maintains existing provisions allowing marriages to be solemnized by licensed ministers in regular communion with Christian churches, active or retired judges at state and federal levels, pastors of religious societies, and members of Mennonite, Quaker, or similar Christian societies.

• Becomes effective upon passage and approval by the Governor or upon otherwise becoming law.
