HB150 - Alabama Equal Pay Remedies and Enforcement Act

• Establishes the Alabama Equal Pay Commission to study wage disparities between men and women and between minorities and non-minorities in both public and private sectors.

• Commission comprises nine members appointed within 90 days: two business representatives, two labor organization representatives, two representatives from equal pay advocacy organizations, and three higher education or research experts in occupational and wage data analysis.

• Commission must conduct comprehensive study of wage disparity extent, contributing factors including occupational segregation and lower wages for female-dominated work, consequences on the economy and families, and proposed legislative and other actions to eliminate disparities.

• Commission shall report findings and recommendations to the Legislature no later than the tenth legislative day of the 2017 Regular Session.

• Act becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and gubernatorial approval.
